Everytime I go for travel especially to new place, new city or new country one thing I always do at once is a spiritual journey to visit the most famous mosques in that city. That’s what I do when visiting Putrajaya City in Malaysia, the federal administrative centre of Malaysia. For your information Putrajaya city is a planned city in Malaysia where maximise the beauty of the various architectural styles from modern and futuristic to meets traditional architectural style. When you entering Putrajaya you will amaze with some government building that has various styles including from India, The Middle East and Europe. Not only that this city also have 2 beautiful and charming Mosque known as Putra Mosque and Tuanku Mizan Zainal Mosque. Let’s take a closer look at these beautiy dan grandeur mosque in Putrajaya.

  1.      Putra Mosque

The mosque which is located on the shores of Putrajaya Lake looks like a floting mosque when viewed from a distance across the Putrajaya lake and pulled every pair of eyes for anyone who passes Seri Wawasan Bridge when they entering towards the city center of Putrajaya. A pink mosque that is located close to Dataran Putra/Perdana Putra which is a place of residence and the head office of prime minister of Malaysia has become one of the icons of the building a series of beautiful buildings in Putrajaya.

Putra Mosque

The mosque which was built in June 1997 and inaugurated on 1 September 1999 was designed by Y.Bhg. Dato Dr. Nik Mohamad Bin Mahmood from Senireka Sdn Bhd company. Designed to have one big dome with eight smaller domes and 1 tower minarets has shades and patterned Persian with pink color. This mosque is reportedly inspired by the grandeur of Sheihk Omar mosque in Baghdad which is Moor style combined by traditional Malay architectural style. While the name of Putra mosque itself is taken from the name of former first Prime Minister of Malaysia Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj as a form of respect for the people and the government of Malaysia for his services.

      Putra Mosque not only has beautiful exterior architectural this mosque also has a impressive interior design. The pink-domed Putra Mosque is constructed with rose-tinted granite. The mosque consists of three main functional areas - the prayer hall, the Sahn, or courtyard, and various learning facilities and function rooms. This mosque can accommodate 15,000 worshipers at any one time. In the main prayer hall which is supported by the main pole 12 is designed to combine the Middle East architecture and traditional Malay architecture dominated pink color from the color of the dome, a prayer mat, ornament decorations on the walls up on the dome.  The basement wall of the mosque resembles that of the King Hassan Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco.

In addition to a place of worship of Muslims at a particular time the mosque was also open to public or tourists who want to see the grandeur of the architecture and enjoy the beauty of the interior Putra Mosque. There will be officers who will lend a mukena for female visitors who wanted to enter this mosque while men must also dress modestly and closed.

      How to get there: To go to the Masjid Putra you can ride Nadi Putra bus 502 from Putrajaya Sentral or KTM Serdang. If you're from the Kuala Lumpur City you can take Nadi Putra bus number 500, Sri Indah and Metro Bus from Pasar Seni Kuala Lumpur or KL Sentral or get on ERL KLIA Transit towards Putrajaya and Cyberjaya then transfer to Nadi Putra bus which is passing Putra Mosque.

 



2.      Iron Mosque/ Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque

Located about 2.2 kilometers from the Putra Mosque stands a mosque Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin who are both built on the shores of Lake Putrajaya. Facing the scenic Putrajaya Lake, the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque is arguably Putrajaya's most distinctive landmark and one of the most modern mosques in the world. Unlike the Putra Mosque designed adopts architecture Middle East style, Masjid Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin adopts modern architecture China and Germany with the concept of 'light, airy and transparent'. And commpare to others mosques in Malaysia, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque has no tower minarets.

The mosque was built since April 2004 by Senireka Sdn Bhd company, the same company that builds Putra Mosque Putrajaya. This mosque was built using iron as a main component used ranging from major construction, dome magnitude, interior and exterior ornaments. It is estimated that to build this mosque takes 6000 tons of steel, or 75 percent of the total building materials used for this mosque and other materials are concrete and glass. The mosque is also using wire mesh (woven steel fibers) which is the same material that used for the Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid and library Bibliothèque nNationale de France in Paris, France. Not only that at the gate of entry part of this Mosque using the GRC which gives a unity structure with glass which is used to produce white color impression when viewed from a distance. Because that this mosque is also known by the name of Iron Mosque.

If you walk towards to Iron Mosque from Perbadan Putrajaya building then you will pass through a corridor called the Qibla walk dotted with ponds and a beautiful garden which is inspired from the ancient palace city of Alhambra. When the legs start to step in from the main entrance to the main prayer hall at the entrance engraved verses of the Qur'an from Surah Al-Isra verse 80.

On the terrace of this mosque was also a pool of water that gives the impression of infinity view. On the right part of the mosque you can enjoy the reflection Seri Wawasan bridge and from the left side of the mosque while you can enjoy Seri Saujana Bridge reflection of the pond. Besides spoiled by the beauty of the structure on the interior of the mosque was backed by the size of Asma Ul Husna use Khat Thuluth calligraphy style. On the mihrab wall of the mosque is made of glass panels engraved verses of the Quran Surah Al-Baqarah on the right side and Surat Ibrahim on the left side.

Adopt concept light, airy and transparent, iron mosque was built with the GDC Technology (Gas District cooling) where this mosque has high ceiling and open space makes the air flow to be more flexible so as to produce a cool space mosques even without using air conditioning. By having a large main prayer room on the 1st floor and 2 and additional space near by ablution room on the ground floor, this mosque can accommodate about 24,000 worshipers at any one time.

How to get there: if you are from the kuala lumpur city you can take the bus nadi Putra Number 500 or Sri Indah and Metro Bus from Pasar Seni Kuala Lumpur. If you are from KL Sentral you can take ERL KLIA Transit train to the station ERL Putrajaya and Cyberjaya then from Terminal bus Putrajaya Sentral bus get on Nadi Putra bus which is passing presint 2 and 3, namely L03 or L04 then get off in front Perbadan Putrajaya.

 

 For all tourist who have a plan to visit Malaysia, especially the Muslims who are visiting Kuala Lumpur Malaysia if you have more time than it seems this 2 mosque in Putrajaya is worth for a visit both to admire the beauty of its architecture as well as for spiritual tourism.
